It's my favorite hobby, and also sometimes (but not always) a method of socializing. It helps having two friends who love movies as much as I do, which means I have someone to go to the movies with, and also encourages competition between us. Though I also love seeing movies alone too.
Part of it too is that I don't have the attention span to watch movies on tv or my laptop. I get bored and wander away. Paying means I'm committed to sitting through it.
