Movies I saw in 2012
I’ll start out by saying that this list is going to be slightly inaccurate, because I saw some movies released in 2011 in January, and I don’t remember all of that exactly, but here are the movies released in 2012 that I’ve seen. I usually make these lists Oscar cut-off to Oscar cut-off, but
ballroom_pink wants to compare, so here we go.
Keep in mind that (1) I see a lot of movies (2) these were all in the theater. Not pirated. Not Redbox. In the theater. (3) My goal with movies (besides joy) is to see all- ALL- the Oscar nominated movies, which means especially as we get close to the Oscars and they don’t have time to come out on video, I see a ton of things that might make it in. But (4) I will also see almost anything at the second-run theater (5) there are still many movies released in 2012 that are in theaters that I will see before the Oscars

- W.E.- This one got nominated for costumes. If you’ve ever sat in a theater and watched a two hour perfume commercial and contemplated murder, you’ve probably seen this movie, in which all characters are detestable and the plot is utterly stupid. The costumes were nice, though.
- One For the Money
- The Woman in Black
- Journey 2: Mysterious Island
- The Vow
- Silent House- Filmed to look like it was one continuous take. I liked it, even though the explanation for the haunting was stupid, but the gimmick was neat and Elizabeth Olsen delights me
- Friends with Kids- I got to see this with
shornt which was awesome.
- 21 Jump Street
- The Hunger Games- didn't mean to fall in love with dystopia. Ooops.
- Mirror, Mirror
- American Reunion- saw this one on Easter when I decided to spend the day at the movies with liquor and popcorn. Terrible movie, but I like drinking
- The Cabin in the Woods- I was warned by
stillscape this one would be violent. Holy hell, was it. I saw it at the second-run theater and spent most of the second half crocheting to keep my eyes off the screen
- The Lucky One
- Five Year Engagement
- The Pirates! Band of Misfits
- First Position- Great documentary, if you can find it, about kids who do ballet. I love movies about people who are passionate.
- The Avengers
- Battleship- second-run, and also the power was out for days. I needed the air-conditioning
- Men in Black 3
- Moonrise Kingdom
- Snow White and the Huntsman- a movie I saw, mostly hated, and then wondered if anyone had written fic about.
- Prometheus- the only movie I’ve ever walked out of
- Safety Not Guaranteed
- Rock of Ages
- Your Sister’s Sister
- Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
- Brave
- Beasts of the Southern Wild
- Magic Mike- saw this with L, K, and B, because if ever a movie demanded a group of ladies viewing it together, it was this one.
- The Amazing Spiderman
- Savages- would've been better with the fake-out ending. I liked seeing consensual non-monogamy play out on screen, though, especially since it wasn't the story but merely an aspect of the characters.
- The Dark Knight Rises- the first movie I saw in theaters after that terrible shooting. That shooting gave me hell; I spent the next month on the verge of bolting. Even now, I’m often staring at the exits, trying to figure out if people are going out of them.
- The Queen of Versailles
- Step Up Revolution: 3D
- The Intouchables- the first movie I saw after the shooting that I didn't look at the exit, because I had to read the subtitles. This has not stopped me from exit-watching since then, however.
- Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry- seen with
stiffleaves in Amsterdam. We loved it.
- Celeste and Jesse Forever
- Hope Springs
- The Bourne Legacy- Zzzzz
- The Campaign
- ParaNorman
- Premium Rush
- Sleepwalk With Me
- The Other Dream Team- H and I met the director of this movie!
- For a Good Time, Call...
- Anna Karenina
- House at the End of the Street- Dumb movie, but JLaw's chest is a sight to behold
- The Perks of Being a Wallflower
- Looper
- Pitch Perfect
- Argo
- Seven Psychopaths
- The Sessions
- Skyfall- seen with
courtknees1 in London. I ran up those same steps that Bond did. WHOA.
- Wreck-It Ralph- I heard almost nothing about this movie before it came out, but it was glorious.
- A Late Quartet- afterwards, I texted
ballroom_pink and told her, apros of nothing, that Philip Seymour Hoffman was a goddamn national treasure
- Lincoln
- Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2
- Playing for Keeps- Argh. B dragged me to this. It was exactly as terrible as I predicted, but also stupid. Nice to see lifelong crush Catherine Zeta-Jones, though.
- This is 40
- Les Mis
